Description
This is part one of an event in Pepperdine history known as the "Birth of a College” dinner, which featured the unveiling of the plans for the Malibu campus and a speech by Governor Ronald Reagan. The event was held at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles with an overflow crowd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 9, 1970. This recording features the entertainment portion of the evening, featuring singer Pat Boone with the Pepperdine College Chorus and Orchestra. Norman Hatch is the Choral Director and Hansel Rayner is the Orchestra Conductor. Songs performed include "Edelweiss," "I Walk with God," "A Mighty Fortress," and "My God and I." Orchestral pieces include George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Alexander Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances" from "Prince Igor." 40:10
