Charles Knudsen (checking earthquake recording machine) Ted McConville (Assistant County Road Commissioner) Willard Johnson (earthquake survey). Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Davis. Date: 1961-10-26. Assignment: Earthquakes. Show Conrad for daily. Special Instructions: Tri-x roll film. 1: Charles Knudsen, of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, checks a 'Strong Motion Accelegraph' machine which recorded the earchquake last Friday in Orange County. 2-4: l-r -- Ted McConville, assistant county road commissioner, Willard Johnson, of the survey team and Knudsen, check the equipment. 5-6: Knudsen displays graph which recorded last weeks shake. If visible, wavy line shows strongest of 7 quakes recorded. He is pointing at wavy line with pencil. Ran out of bulbs, dammit...had to use natural light".
