Description
Hanson poses here with a roadside sign reading "6 Miles to the Punchbowl, Road constructed by 1st Engineer & Shore Party BNS., 1st Marine Division." The Punchbowl was a bowl-shaped valley near the 38th Parallel that was--in 1951--the site of several tactical battles, including Bloody Ridge, Heartbreak Ridge, and the Battle of the Punchbowl.
