Description
2001-0154. Santa Catalina Island; shows stagecoach with six horses on dirt road loop; men and women in carriage. Handwritten note on back of photo, "Mr. Greely & his 6 horses on Stage road." George Augustus Greeley was born in 1854 in Maine to Andrew Leach and Hannah C. (Strout) Greeley. Came to California in 1871, settling in Anaheim, later in Pasadena. In 1907 moved to Avalon , became associated with Banning Brothers, owned stage line from isthmus to Little Harbor. Served as Superintendent of streets and roads. Later operated automobile passenger service. Died in 1917.
