Description
Frances and Ione Welch skating on frozen pond in Yosemite. They are both dressed warmly, hats, gloves, long coats and socks along with their ice skates. They are both smiling. Written on back: "Yosemite, Xmas 1922". Written on front: "Frances & Ione". Photo is one of several found in an envelope from Welch family labeled: "Snaps of stays in Yosemite -- Summer 1919 Xmas 1922 -- J.R., Mrs., Frances & Ione spent almost a week at the Sentinal Hotel on the Merced River. It was the first time Yosemite was open to the public in the winter. Train from S. J. to Merced, & to El Portal - then truck-like heavy bus on to the Hotel."
