Photograph of a locomotive at Vulcan Iron Works -- probably one of the first locomotives built in California -- San Francisco, ca.1870. At left, a small locomotive engine is visible being pulled out from the Vulcan Iron Works building on a horse-drawn cart. To the right, twelve people can be seen standing on or in front of the locomotive. More can be seen farther left. The street in the foreground appears to be muddy.
