Description
Photograph of four men sitting in front of the Tozai Co. dry goods store in Sacramento. The store was owned by Kameji Ikuma. Kameji Ikuma was born in Japan on October 17, 1887. He returned to Japan to marry Yasuno (later known as Yasuko) Ikuta, who was born on June 20, 1902. They had one child: Kazumi (later known as April), who was born on April 9, 1932. In the 1920s, Kameji established Tozai Dry Goods Store on 1214 Fourth Street in Sacramento. The Ikuma family was forced to evacuate to Walerga Assembly Center, Tule Lake, and Topaz. Upon resettlement in Sacramento, Kameji worked as a farm laborer and saved enough money to open Kay's Pool Hall in August 1947. Yasuno began working at Bercut-Richards and California Packing Corp. packing sheds as well as the Libby, McNeil & Libby cannery.
