Caption dated May 31, 1961 reads, "Eighty crew members of the submarine 'Gudgeon,' lost in April, 1944, in the South Pacific, were honored Tuesday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Ship 8310, 1006 W. Magnolia Blvd. Burbank. Jack Killion, 314 N. Lomita St., Burbank, chairman of the plaque committee; Capt. Clarence Gillen, 3614 Oak St, Burbank, Ship 8310, and Capt, Robert Dornin, commanding officer, Los Alamitos, left to right, dedicated the plaque. Dornin was executive officer of the 'Gudgeon' during the war."
