Description
Gerd Stern, a poet and artist who built his first major kinetic sculpture "Contact Is The Only Love" in the work shop at Druid Heights during the course of several weeks in 1963, and Barbara Somers, then wife of Druid Heights co-founder Roger Somers. The photo was taken in the "Zendo" rooms in the Dragon house at Druid Heights and besides being part of Gerd's story it shows the original antique "Kamadama" alter in place. The shirt that Barbara is wearing references his sculpture. Unfortunately the sculpture was later destroyed in an accident but Gerd made scale replicas (the original was 7' tall" and those are on display in four museums. According to Stern, the photograph was probably taken by Judith Wilson Stern.
