Description
This 1923 photograph shows the Heeseman Clothiers baseball team of the Sacramento City League. Charles Heeseman opened his clothing shop at 619 K St. in 1916, and operated it there for more than 30 years. The business eventually became Heeseman Incorporated, and moved to 1022 K St. during the 1950s and early 1960s. Sponsors for local teams came from all quarters of commerce and attested to the popularity of team sports, especially baseball. The captioned player is Wally McGee, who died of consumption the same year this image was captured.
