Description
Photograph, taken in 1923, of the Heeseman Clothiers baseball team of the Sacramento City League. Charles Heeseman opened his clothing shop at 619 K Street in 1916, and for over thirty years it operated at that spot. The business eventually became Heeseman Incorporated, and during the 1950s and early 1960s moved to 1022 K Street, known as the home of Hart, Schaffner and Marx. Sponsors for local teams came from all quarters of commerce and attest to the popularity of team sports, especially baseball. The captioned player is Wally McGee, who died of consumption the same year this image was captured.
