Note sand deposits next to beach walk and erosion about midway between walk and ocean. Tractor is grading water course for drainage from 17th Street.This was the result of a 6.2 tide on 9 January 1940 accompanied by heavy ground swells and 30 foot breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Newport Beach and Malibu. Also visible are: a few houses, pier, beach, ocean. No legible signs.
