Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated July 25, 1956 reads "Exploding 'ash can' creates geyser. Reservists and regular hands aboard U.S.S. Weeden stand on fantail as ship lets loose one death-dealing depth charge set at 30 feet. Blast rocked ship as water began to boil and finally 100-foot water spout rose 75 yards behind destroyer escort. In event of contact with enemy submarine, ship's crew would set down pattern of five or six charges. Each one can disable an underwater boat."
