Charles Handy thought for the day on the isolating effects of technology and how it has led to social stratification. Handy begins the article discussing how his visit to Paris has been marked by much quiet due to a strike. Handy uses that moment to reflect on his belief that the strikes, and the way they've distracted people from technology, have prompted people to be nicer to one another again. He proceeds to talk about how certain technological innovations have not served to make people closer to one another, but instead have increased the distance between people. He concludes the thought stressing that if technology has caused people to become less interactive with one another, that is a worrisome development, as most people were not destined to be hermits.
