Description
Eleven views of the Selig Zoo (later Luna Park), 3800 Mission Road in East Los Angeles, plus one descriptive leaf of text; images show building entrance, exotic animals, men and women trainers in costume and performance scenes. Los Angeles; ca. 1915.
Printed text on leaf: "Selig Zoo" about 1915 / a "Wild Animal Farm" open to the public. Owned by Selig Polyscope Productions, it provided a habitat for exotic animals used in motion pictures produced by Selig. It was headquartered in the old Indian Exposition Bldg. (note emblem over doorway of front entrance) in Lincoln Park, off Mission Road in East Los Angeles. "Selig Place" still intersects Mission Road today. Olga Celeste (Princess Olga, Lady Leopard Trainer) was born in Sweden in 1888. Worked vaudeville, circuses, motion pictures. Died in 1969.
