In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. D, leaf 3.
View of a street with buildings on the right and on the left; two men are in the act of crossing street; on left corner is a large 3 story building with decorative curving lintels above windows on 2nd & 3rd floors; further down left side is vertical sign, advertising "Chop Suey"; in the distance a dome with a lantern is at the end of street on left; on the right is an historic-looking building whose corner is topped by an onion dome and in front is a sign for the "Star Cafe"; about 4 buildings away is a multi-story building much higher than any other structure in the photo.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"'Old Telegraph Bldg.' left, in 1885. F.W. Fratt bldg., in 1901. Minnie Nagele Bldg. right, erected in 1881." Businesses include: Hotel Charleston, Star Cafe, Sun Sun Chop Suey.
