Description
Sacramento buildings for locomotive repair were in place for the Central Pacific Railroad by 1869 with improvements and additions materializing over the years. By the time this circa 1907 postcard was in circulation, the facilities included a 70 foot turntable roundhouse, an expanded machine shop, and boiler shop to finish locomotives built on-site. The 42 acres also included a blacksmith shop, paint shop and pattern shop while the depot, opened in 1879, housed offices.
