Photograph was edited for publication purposes Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys at Christmas to needy children. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks. It began as a local charitable effort in Los Angeles. The initial effort was so successful that Toys for Tots launched a national campaign in 1948. Photograph caption dated December 17, 1964 reads "Actor Bob Cummings and actress Julie Newmar lend their support to the Marine Corps Reserve 'Toys for Tots' campaign now under way nationwide for children here and abroad."
