Photograph caption dated January 31, 1956 reads, "Awards were accepted above for first and second places in the men's singles event of the 38th annual Los Angeles Metropolitan tennis championships by Clyde Hippenstiel, second from left, and Fred Hagist, second from right, Sunday at the Griffith Playground courts. Hippenstiel received his first place trophy from George Hjelte, general manager of the Recreation and Park Department, and Hagist was presented his award by Tournament Chairman Douglass B. Perry."
