While most Fourth of July holiday activities are centered around parades, picnics, band concerts, selection of beauty queens and commemorative ceremonies, it's the appearance of the colorful, noisy, scene-stealers - the fireworks displays - that never fail to capture everyone's fancy. Fireworks had their beginning in the 17th century and reached a highly developed stage by the 18th century when Louis XV of France witnessed lavish displays in his honor at Paris."
