Photograph was edited for publication purposes In 1932, Robert E. Gross bought the failing Lockheed Aircraft Corporation for $40,000. For the next 28 years, he transformed the company one of the most successful aerospace companies in the world. Photograph caption dated September 27, 1950 reads "Lockheed President Robert Gross, Vice President H. L. Hibbard and planes." The article partially reads "Now doing a workhorse job in Korea, and proving itself in actual warfare, is the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star. Less than a decade ago, it was a Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter that shot down the first German plane near Iceland--within minutes after World Was II was declared."
