Description
Photograph of exterior view of the Dow Chemical Styrene Plant, ca.1930. At left, a series of vertical, lightly-colored pipes are visible. The pipes extend further into the background, and some pipes move to the far right of the image. At the center of each pipe, a circular valve can be seen. A man wearing lightly-colored work clothes stands at the third pipe and grips the valve. The pipes are labeled, from left to right, "Low Pressure Steam", "Low Pressure Condensate", "High Pressure Steam", "Low Pressure Steam", "Cracking Unit D19", "High Pressure Condensate". Go the right, a small bridge has been erected over the line of pipes. In the background, four identical darkly-colored cylindrical objects can be seen. Each object has two large pipes extending from the middle of its body to the ground, and the top of the object is in the shape of a smokestack. A small metal ring hangs over the top of the pipe. In the extreme background, additional industrial equipment is visible.
