Description
The intersection of Tenth and L, as taken from the Capitol Dome, was captured in this 1897 photograph. The large structure on the far corner is the residence of flour mill manager Charles McCreary and his wife Fannie, while the even bigger building to the right of that is the State House Hotel. The hotel's owner, William Land, resolved to leave the pictured structure in 1909 to build a larger structure under the same name. In the center of the photograph and back is the steeple of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, previously known as Grace Church, at Eight and J Streets.
