Photograph caption dated February 1, 1958 reads, "Mrs. Virginia May Rives, 30, Pacoima, free on $15,000 bail, has been ordered to court March 4 on charge of murdering her common law husband." Mrs. Rives is at Van Nuys Municipal Court during her preliminary hearing giving testimony regarding the shooting of truck driver Keith Haning. She claims she shot Mr. Haning in self-defense because he was trying to strangle her.
