Photograph caption dated June 6, 1959 reads "Norma Dean Hopper, right, 1944 Evergreen St., Burbank, is sworn into US Navy by Lt. E. B. Gorsuch, WAVE recruiting officer in Burbank. Newly inducted WAVE is undergoing training at Bainbridge, Md." WAVES stands for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, the women's branch of United States Naval Reserve.
