Description
The pool and shaded lawn behind the Coral Reef Lodge at 2700 Fulton Avenue is the subject of this postcard. The printed description on the back indicates that the lodge is " 'the quiet place'...away from Freeway 80 traffic...breakfast at La Petite cafe. Dine across the street at famed Coral Reef Restaurant..." The Coral Reef Lodge made its first appearance in the Sacramento Suburban Directory in the 1961 edition, joining the Maleville brothers' landmark restaurant across the street and a bit closer to the Town and Country shopping center, both fixtures since the late 1940s. The Coral Reef Lodge was indeed a quiet and scenic spot insulated from the traffic of Fulton Avenue and adjoining Arcade Creek, encircled by development but still a preserve for wildlife.
