Photograph was edited for publication purposes Bolton Hall, built in 1913, was originally used as a community center for the Utopian community of Los Terrenitos. From 1920 until 1957, it was used as an American Legion hall, the San Fernando Valley's second public library, Tujunga City Hall, and a jail. The building sat vacant while the battle to preserve it lasted for more than twenty years. Since 1980, Bolton Hall has been operated by the Little Landers Historical Society as a local history museum. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural monument and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (No. 71000159). Photograph caption dated April 4, 1964 reads "Mrs. Estelle Prins, president of the Citizens Committee for Civic Betterment, calls for volunteers to help her picket the site of Tujunga's historic Bolton Hall. Bulldozers and a demolition crew were 'anticipated momentarily' yesterday to tear down the old town hall. Martin Specher, Tujunga, left, did join Mrs. Prins, but the destruction crews never showed up. The City Council has refused to grant her group more time to raise $40,000 needed to save the landmark."
