Photograph caption reads: "Sand has its own form of artistic expression as Catherine Beason, 11 (back), and Linda Toller, 13 (front), both of Van Nuys, have proven with their creation of an octopus. Animals, human figures, space craft and modernistic designs take on features peculiar to their nature. Children, under the supervision of Diane Shadley, director of Kittridge Street Elementary School playground, 13619 Kittridge St., Van Nuys, are taught sand sculpturing daily from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday as a summer activity of the Youth Services Program of the Los Angeles City Schools". Photograph dated: July 26, 1962.
