The Calamigos Star C Ranch was founded by J. Grant and Helen Gerson in 1947. The 120-acre ranch was built to resemble a town in the Old West, holding overnight summer camp and later switching to day camp. The teen-age Beauty Farm was opened in 1961. The "farm" functioned as a health club, charm school, and summer camp all rolled into one. The ranch is now used for weddings, conferences, corporate picnics and movie and TV shoots, and is operated by the Gerson's grandsons, Garrett and Garner Gerson.
Photograph caption dated July 28, 1965 reads "The camp's cook Mrs. Rena Gordon stirs low-carbohydrate, gourmet dish as menu-planner Mrs. John Heimann looks on. Mrs. Heimann's husband directs other activities at the farm." The teen-age Beauty Farm is located in the hills above Malibu.; See images #00119948 through #00119950 for all photos in this series.
