Not long after Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted.
Photograph caption dated March 24, 1944 reads, "Red-haired Joan Barry, the government's star witness against Charlie Chaplin at his trial on 'white slave' charges, reads the news during a recess."
