Description
A Rarámuri or Tarahumara indigenous man with his hands in his pockets stands besides two bags of luggage at the train station platform. The man wears layers of shirts underneath a buttoned shirt and a headwrap around his forehead. He wears black pants and boots. People sit on the short staircases behind him. The Tarahumara are a group of indigenous people living in the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. They are legendary for their long-distance running ability. The 80's was considered the "lost decade" because of Mexico's debt crisis. This was due to the falling oil prices that left Mexico without foreign currencies to pay off its $80 billion debt. This in effect, increased high levels of unemployement, especially in rural areas.
