Cleanup crews work at clearing a quarter-mile stretch of beach in southern El Segundo after more than 2000 gallons of heavy diesel oil leaked from a ruptured fuel line at an Edison Co. power plant on August 13, 1984. The cause of the rupture and the extent of environmental damage were being investigated, but estimated cleanup time for the popular surfing and sunbathing spot was about three days.
