Description

The St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church was founded in 1907, one of the first Catholic churches to be built in the San Fernando Valley. It was originally named the Holy Trinity Parish but was renamed in 1939 to honor St. Robert Bellarmine, a cardinal who was canonized in 1930 by Pope Pius XI. The church and it's school buildings were built to resemble famous colonial buildings such as Monticello and Independence Hall. St. Robert Bellarmine Church is located at 133 N. Fifth Street in Burbank, California.
Photograph caption dated June 26, 1964 reads, "The Burbank Junior Woman's Club will assist the Burbank Parks and Recreation Department again this year in the annual July 4 Bell Ringing Observance. Inspecting bell at St. Robert Bellarmine Church are, from left, Mmes. Vaughn Chadbourne, Glendale; James S. Hart and George B. Logan, Burbank. The bells will ring throughout the nation simultaneously from 2 to 4 minutes at 11 a.m. Other churches in Burbank participating are First Baptist, First Lutheran, American Lutheran, Magnolia Park Community Methodist, St. Francis Xavier, St. Finbar, Little White Chapel, First Methodist and First Christian. The Juniors will distribute documents of freedom and patriotic literature from 1 to 7 p.m. in the auditorium at McCambridge Park."
