Photograph caption dated December 29, 1952 reads, "A roaring, atom-like column of black smoke and flame rises skyward following explosion of a broken gasoline pipeline in Lawndale at noon today. Five persons were injured, including a 10-year-old girl who ran down the street with her clothes on fire. Heat from the towering flames at the line break was so intense firemen had to have water played on them from their own hoses in order to approach."
