Description
This circa 1912 postcard captures the grandeur of the Hotel Land at its perch at the southwest corner of Tenth and K streets. Opened in August 1910, the five-story Land, rising in the spot where the State House Hotel once stood, was the work of local hotelier William Land. The namesake of Sacramento's largest public park, Land started as a bell boy at the Western Hotel, working his way up to notoriety and wealth.
