Description
The long range plan from 1975 shows a much greater concern for the adjacent community of Isla Vista. A larger concentration of university buildings is shown in the 'loop' area, as well as trees and pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Unlike the 1963 plan, the 1975 does not include an expansion of Highway 217 through the slough to the north of the campus mesa. The increase in environmental awareness after the 1969 oil spill in the Santa Barbara Channel changed the plans to be more eco-friendly.
