Description
Annotation translation: "Man from the Grassfields with carved stools. Africans are good carvers. They carve richly decorated stools using only a few simple knives. The stools are carved out of a single piece of wood and are not in any way screwed or glued together. Now the carver is carrying them to market - or to the coast, 12 days' journey away. He hopes to get a good price. If he is successful he will buy cloth, a lantern or a large cooking pot."
Note translation: Typical Babanki work. (PV 03.2002).
Stamped: "Museum der Basler Mission, Basel, Missionsstrasse 21."
