“Liaoyang Pagoda.” Exterior view of a Buddhist Temple known as the White Pagoda which is situated in baita park and dates from the reign of Emperor Shizong of Jin (1123-1189). It is a thirteen storied octagonal structure standing 71 meters high with each storey having an ornamental projecting roof. The exterior of the temple is decorated with figurative carvings from Buddhist iconography. Liaoyang is situated on the Tai-tzu River south west of Moukden [Shenyang] and the United Presbyterian Church first established an outpost there when Old Wang, an indigenous evangelist, was sent there in 1882 by the Rev John Ross (1842-1915).
