Description
2018-3421. Waist-length portrait. Born Lewis William Grothern in Germany in 1845, family came to America in 1851, settling in Indiana. Served in Civil War in the 11th Indiana Battery, attached to 14th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland. Arrived in Sacramento in 1876, worked as forman in the cabinet department of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company's shops. Member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Warren Post No. 54.
