Description
People lined up to ride the Race Thru the Clouds roller coaster at the Venice Lagoon in Venice, California, located next to the Abbot Kinney Pier. A Los Angeles Pacific Company train car number 66 can be seen in the foreground and automobiles are near the archway with the sign "To Meet Again" at right.
"de Haaff Color Photo Engraving Top Floor San Fernando Building 4th and Main Sts. Los Angeles"--text, stamped on verso. "[ca. 1911]"--text, handwritten note on verso. Title devised by cataloger; date supplied by cataloger based on note on verso and date of similar image photCL_555_01_1797. The Los Angeles City Directory, 1911, p. 386, lists photographer: "de Haaff, Mauritz, engrav. 406 S Main" [Los Angeles]. The "Race Thru the Clouds" roller coaster operated from 1911-1923.
