Description
Photograph. "Completion of a mid-town office building of contemporary design, at the corner of Temple and Rampart Streets, was announced today by Joe M. Shapiro. The building is owned by Joe Shapiro, Sheldon Pollack and Leonard Greenstone. -- The two-story 7000 square foot structure was designed by Sheldon L. Pollack and Associates, Inc., and was built by their affiliate company, the Sheldon L. Pollack Construction Corporation, general contractors. The entire ground floor has been leased by the Beneficial Standard Life Insurance Company, reported Shapiro. -- Norbert Pieper AIA, chief architect of the Pollack firm, said that design of the building was predicated on achieving the maximum flexibility of interior design for tenant requirements. The exterior design reflects the modular concept. -- An architectural interest and textural warmth has been achieved by used of decorative masonry screen panels, alternating with fixed glass units and semi-tropical landscaping. -- Shel-Brick, a revolutionary reinforced masonry construction system, invented by Pollack, has been used for this building, said Peiper, principally because of its high strength, water-repellent qualities and relative low cost factor. -- Ample off-street parking was provided for tenants and visitors." -- typed press release attached to verso, dated 13 November 1960.
