Description
“The church Chogoria, making the bricks.” Exterior view showing Dr Irvine and brickmakers at a table with clay and brick moulds. The carpenter, Ayubu, discovered clay near Chogoria and a brick plant was set up using hydroelectric power. The new church was constructed from brick and replaced the old wattle and mud building that had deteriorated due to white ants and weather. ❧ The image is from the first twenty years of the Chogoria mission in Kenya, which was run by the Rev. Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974), from the collection entitled ‘Chogoria, glimpses into the past’.
