Description
Velma Lucille Bernal, at age 19, in the overalls she wore to her shifts at California Packing Corporation Plant #3. The photo was taken on the back porch of her family home on Gregory Street, San Jose, California, just around the corner from Plant #3, which was located at 801 Auzerais Avenue, San Jose, California. Velma Lucille Bernal was born in San Jose on Dec. 13, 1901; died in San Jose on Dec. 27, 1998. She is buried in the Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery. California Packing Corporation sold its products under a number of proprietary and distributive labels, including their premium brand, Del Monte. In June 1967, the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corporation.
