Description: Side view of the famous guardstone at the bottom of the flight of steps at the Ratnaprāsāda ("jeweled mansion"). A sculptured elephant on its haunches is atop the short column at the side. The guardstone at right is missing. According to the Mahāvamsa this edifice had seven storeys.
