Svend T. var uddannet diakon og sygeplejerske og blev efter kinesiske sprogstudier ansat på Kaohsiung Kristne Hospital. Familien var tilknyttet den lokale kirke, Opstandelseskirken i Tso Ying, hvor også deres datter, Charlotte, blev konfirmeret (af den norske præst Asbjørn Salte)

Svend Erik Toftdal. Else Anita & Svend Erik Toftdal with three kids were sent by DMS to Taiwan, 1980-86. Svend T. having training as deacon and nurse, became, after Chinese language studies, employed at Kaohsiung Christian Hospital. The family had close contacts to the local church, the Resurrection Church at Tso Ying, Also their daughter, Charlotte, was confirmed in this church (by Rev. Asbjørn Salte from Norway).
