Description
Photograph of a panoramic view of the Sherman Indian School in Riverside, ca.1910. The school is comprised of many buildings that surround a very large courtyard. Young trees are scattered across the courtyard, often near the footpaths. Many of the buildings, of Spanish-style architecture, feature multicurved gables, arched windows, arcades, bell towers, dome towers, crosses on the peaks of buildings, and Spanish tiled roofs. Several of the buildings (at right) have porticos. An American flag stands near the corner buildings at left. Water sprinklers are watering the grass in the courtyard. "The museum is housed in the Sherman Indian High School's administration building, the current school's only original architecture. The small, one-story Spanish style building still stands as it did 100 years ago, although the rest of the school was demolished and rebuilt to meet earthquake standards during the 1970s." -- unknown author.
