Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. A cross being hoisted to the roof during the expansion of Trinity Lutheran Church in San Pedro. The church received an anonymous $25,000 donation in 1969 which initiated a fundraising drive to expand the church. The donation was left in an unmarked manila envelope on the church doorstep. A note quoting a passage from the Corinthains was with the donation. Trinity Lutheran Church, at 1450 West 7th Street, was founded in 1921 by families of Norwegian ancestry.
