Probable date based on printer history; Maerz joined the Courier Lith. Co. as superintendent of the art department around 1881 (Last, The Color Explosion, 208). "The Courier Lith. Co. Buffalo, N.Y."--text, bottom left margin. "Maerz"--text, artist.'s signature in stone, bottom left.
