Description
As described in Charles McCaleb's book "Tracks, Tires & Wires," on October 30, 1917, "the Coyote Creek bridge on East Santa Clara Street gave way under the weight of three heavily loaded Southern Pacific freight cars. Cars and bridge went crashing down into the creekbed, conductor Harry Rich clinging to the steps of the middle car and escaping with barely a scratch. Not so fortunate ws 12-year-old Larry Foster, who at that moment was cycling over the bridge on his morning milk delivery route. The lad died of his injuries." (See p. 81)
