Description
In this interview, Nan Stone begins by explaining that she first met Peter Drucker in 1988 when she was an editor at the Harvard Business Review (H.B.R.). In describing how they met, she gives an impersonation of Peter Drucker on the phone. What she found most striking about Drucker was his ability to relate to her not just as his editor, but also as a person. She then discusses some of the articles she worked on with Drucker, including, but not limited to, “The Coming of the New Organization.” She then goes on to discuss Drucker’s understanding and insight of industrial organizations and the importance of information and information flows. Towards the middle of the interview, Stone describes what she calls Drucker’s “moral imagination” which deals with understanding the integrity of each person with whom he works with. In the second half of the interview, Stone discusses what she considers some of Drucker’s most important ideas, such as the concept of the organization and the role that organizations play within a free society. She then discusses Drucker’s work with General Motors. She ends the interview by stating that she believes Peter Drucker will be remembered as the "Father of Management."
